What is NUML LMS?

NUML LMS is a learning management system that is designed to help Teachers create an online classroom setting with opportunities for rich interaction and collaboration with their students. LMS contains various design aspects that allow instructors and students to interact, collaborate, and experience online learning in exciting multiple ways. LMS can be used to supplement on ground courses or can be used to host completely online courses. The LMS Course Management System can provide teachers with a powerful set of tools to create and manage courses, course content, course materials, track student attendance and performance through tests, and administer quizzes, assignments, and surveys provides a platform to create a forum for interaction between students and teachers and between students also.

General Features of the LMS Platform

The LMS platform has three levels of use, with features of differential use and access. The concept is administrator (the manager of the platform), teacher (who may also have other designations, for example, coordinator, facilitator, promoter) and the student (learner, participant, among others). These roles and their features are represented in the following table.

Role Function
Administrator Manages the whole environment
Teacher Generate classes, courses or subjects according to the thematic areas defined.
Generate classes or events which are designated.
Student Accesses and interacts with a specific event and participates in the subjects they are en-rolled.

General Features of the LMS Platform

Papers and Projects of the teacher or the various papers/projects submitted by earlier students to the institute (or teacher) can also be published and made available to the students undergoing the course. As these students are registered through the site they may be allowed to read and study these materials at their own benefit. Also this makes it a very good database for storing the projects and papers submitted to the institute or the teacher.
The assignment activity module enables a teacher to communicate tasks, collect work and provide grades and feedback. Students can submit any digital content (files), such as word-processed documents, spreadsheets, images, or audio and video clips. Alternatively, the assignment may require students to type text directly into the text editor. An assignment can also be used to remind students of 'real-world' assignments they need to complete offline, such as art work, and thus not require any digital content. Students can submit work individually or as a member of a group. When reviewing assignments, teachers can leave feedback comments and upload files, such as marked-up student submissions, documents with comments or spoken audio feedback. Assignments can be graded and final grades are recorded in the grade book.
The file module enables a teacher to provide a file as a course resource. Where possible, the file will be displayed within the course interface; otherwise students will be prompted to download it. A file may be used
• To share presentations given in class
• To include a mini website as a course resource
• To provide draft files of certain software programs (e.g. Photoshop .psd) so students can edit and submit them for assessment
The folder module enables a teacher to display a number of related files inside a single folder, reducing scrolling on the course page. A zipped folder may be uploaded and unzipped for display, or an empty folder created and files uploaded into it.
The quiz activity enables a teacher to create quizzes comprising questions of various types, including multiple choice, matching, short-answer and numerical. Each attempt is marked automatically, with the exception of essay questions, and the grade is recorded in the grade book.
The feedback activity module enables a teacher to create a custom survey for collecting feedback from participants using a variety of question types including multiple choice, yes/no or text input. Feedback responses may be anonymous if desired, and results may be shown to all participants or restricted to teachers only.
Just like a discussion section a forum can be created where, frequently asked questions can be included to minimize the time consumption of the teacher and some students which can be saved from joining in the discussion of the FAQ topics. Also, topics which are related but outside the course can be posted on the forum for discussion by the teacher and the other students in a very easy way.
As LMS provides an online active participation of the course by the teacher, a class attendance can be kept for the students who have participate in the course. Since, each student have to log-in to the site and the through it attend the class, it can be easily used to keep track of the attendance of each student specifically.
Similar to keeping track of attendance of the students, the teacher can accumulate and keep track of the grades provided by him to each student through tests, quizzes and assignments by using the database of the site. As the graded and attendance of each student is stored by the site.
